Music is central to the telling of Simon's
story. Personal, emotive and poignant, Simon's solo songs
and those performed with band Icarus often express his situation
and experience better than spoken words can. From the quirky
self-portrait which gives the film its title, Funny Kinda
Guy, to the mixed emotions of Peter Pan, music accompanies
us on the journey and allows us a unique insight into Simon's
world.
Icarus
Simon de Voil and Michelle le Masurier formed Icarus in
1998, with Simon on guitar and vocals and Michelle on vocals
and flutes. Their well-crafted original songs are characterised
by the blended harmonies of the two vocals. Various line-ups
over the years have brought cello, violin, bass and djembe
to the sound, which is broadly in the singer-songwriter
tradition, with influences ranging from jazz and Natalie
Merchant to Nick Drake.
